Blu-ray/DVD player on RV 12 volts?

I bought a Sony BDP-S1700 Blu-ray/DVD player for our RV. It is powered by a wall wart supplying 12 volt DC. Could it operate without damage powered directly from my RV 12 volt system, which at times is actually 14.3 volts?
  • Get a Buck transformer off of e-bay to protect your blu-ray player.

  • Maybe. Depends on the DVD power input circuit. If it designed to take more than 12 volts it should be okay. It costs a little to make the power input tolerant of higher voltages and who knows what they did.
  • What DC voltage (metered) is the wall wart actually outputing?
  • I've got two meters. The ancient Micronta digital (I bought it way before I got grey hair) says 12.51 volts. The newer Craftsman meter says 12.3. Both under no load, of course.

I thought Bucks are only for AC applications??

its a DC buck power supply, its a circuit board with components to regulate the voltage to 'your' set point

most are adjustable over a wide range, like 12v-40v in
    and 5v-30v out

    there are BUCK only
    Boost only,
and buck/boost, which can do both functions
say power fluctuates 10v-15v and you want to maintain 12v
    then use a buck/boost module

Drock is one brand, well know, good quality,
