Shutter lag is a big issue with most compact digital cameras and all phone cameras. We have an Iphone 5 and the latest Motorola phone and they have BIG shutter lag. My dog it 30 feet down the yard before the shutter snaps. The only compact cameras that have short shutter lag is something like the Fuji 100 that costs about 1,300 bucks for a fixed lens digital.
I just bought a very modestly priced Nikon DSLR and it has very little lag time. They are on sale now for $550.00. I would suggest not getting the kit lens and taking the 35mm f1.8 instead. Way faster.
Or you can buy something like an Olympus XA on ebay for 40 dollars. Very compact 35mm film camera with very very little shutter lag. Maybe not quite as fast as the poster with the M3 Leica, but close.
When the poster gets tired of your M3 send it on over to me. I am making do with a Voightlander Prominent for my classic German rangefinder and I would prefer the Leica.
BTW there are lots of compact film cameras that will work, but be sure you do NOT buy one with auto focus.
