Thanks for the comments regarding WHY CGs don't offer a good wifi solution, but after just a LITTLE research, I have found several CG wifi solutions that are very cost effective. SO, this tells me that CG owners are not wanting to provide the service. A few antennas with a few routers can cover a large CG easily. As for the bandwidth hogs in the CG, you can limit the type of traffic (no streaming or TV) with a few configurations on the routers!
As for mifi (cellular hotspots) unless you are using a mobile device (i.e. cell phone or tablet), you will quickly burn through the data plan of 6GBs very quickly. I did a little test the other day using my MacBookAir and burned through 2GBs of data in just over 3 hours (no I wasn't downloading huge files or streaming video). It seems the standard browser (can be changed to mimic a mobile browser) uses a LOT more data.
I sure wish some cellular provider would come back out with UNLIMITED data plans. Maybe Good Sam Club should take up the fight for us!
Seems like no one has a good reason except to say that CG owners are too lazy AND too cheap to provide a service.
I did read an article on Woodalls about wifi being a service wanted by MORE RVers than sewer…and I tend to agree. I'm self contained and can use the dump station, but without wifi I'm dead!
Thanks again for your inputs…as for the long range wifi, I'm going to purchase a Bullet and connect it to a yagi antenna (or mesh parabolic antenna) for the long range free wifi. It seems like the yacht people understand the problem better than the RV community does…so looking at many of their solutions!
Thanks again.
