As for the OP, all you needed to do was ask "what it the return policy" when you made your purchase.
I found out the hard way at Best Buy a few years ago. They had a 14 day return policy on computers and silly me made an early Xmas purchase for my wife for a netbook on sale. Once she opened the box, we knew she wouldn't like it, we took it back for a better model (simply wanted to upgrade)
Tuff out of luck, as approx 30 days had passed...
most places allow you to designate a "christmas gift" status to this kind of purchase so that the 30 days or whatever starts then.
