Can a CD be downloaded onto an iPad Tablet?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just use iTunes. File -> add file to library or add folder to library. Then drag the files I want to the iPad icon. Can be done tethered or Wifi. This is for pdf files only, but I put them in a service manual folder in iBooks on the iPad.
Sure beats dragging a ton of service manuals in the field.
