I used to get those all the time back when I used Nettamer (A DOS program) to grab my E-Mail... Three suspects.
ONE: A data file, this is either a program, graphic (photo) or compressed file designed to be translated by the computer but you have set something so that does not happen (A very good idea in my not very humble opinion)
TWO: Bad data... Something went wrong and sync was lost so the data in the E-mail is bad.. Related topic.. Bad disc read
Three: Pretty Good Protection, or some other encryption program was run on that E-mail and you need the decoder and key to read it.
