Can I interface my laptop with GM's display?

I would like to display my laptop's mapping program on my Chevy navigation system screen in real time; that is, show the laptop output on the truck's display. The truck's display is brighter than my laptop's screen and is in a good location to watch my progress in real time. I don't want to watch or even have the Chevy Navigation Program running. How can I accomplished this?

My truck is a 2015 Chevy 3500, Duramax, 4X4, Exhaust brake, DRW, Crew cab, Long bed with Chevy Navigation screen.

Thanks,
LeRoy

Look around glove box, center console etc for red/white/yellow plugs. The yellow is video into the nav system. It's used for displaying a portable DVD on the screen.

If you have that, then there's 2 steps.

    1. You need to get an S-video to video plug for your laptop. Plug this into the yellow jack.
    2. Figure out a way to fool the system to display video while you're moving. My Caddy doesn't allow this but I know there's a hack into the car computer to allow it.

Typically you have to fool the unit into thinking you are "parked" (IE parking brake set).

Basically you would need to find the parking brake switch wire then add a switch to ground or add 12V to the wire depending on how the nav system is setup..

BUT, now days many of the vehicles are using a serial bus data communications system which links all electronic items together. This means that there is a good chance that the body control computer will send data (parking brake on/off)to the nav system and the old parking brake wire method is no longer available.

Second, The analog video input is a much lower resolution than a laptop screen and will give you rather dismal results for video quality.. I doubt that you will be able to view your laptop screen very well.

I would recommend buying a USB monitor instead. These are the monitors many car PC enthusiasts use, the monitor pulls power from the USB port and the monitor acts like a USB video card. They can be had in sizes down to 7" screens like THIS ONE ..
