Can I make my television play back through stereo receiver?

I have a Jensen JE1911 television connected via HDMI to a Jensen AWM975 stereo. I've been trying to find a way to get the TV to play back sound through the stereo system speakers instead of relying on...

have you tried going to the SOUND setup menu on the TV? there might be an option to use your stereo.
