I'm not sure what kind of DVD - Stereo player is in my camper, but, in order to get the sound to play FROM the television to the DVD player so the surround sound would work, I had to hook up the red-white-yellow wires from the back to the TV output to the input of the DVD player. The HMDI cord works ONLY for playing DVD's from the player to the television, not the other way around. That's how I did it.
It's nice now, we use the television over-the-air. We can turn on the DVD player and flip on the surround sound and I can be outside cooking and look inside the camper through the windows and watch television and hear the sound from the outside speakers. Love it!
