CB radio, How many users?

Back in my younger days I had an old Datsun pickup with 108" whip on the back corner. I ran RG8U from the 100 watt liner under the seat to the antenna. Had a blast on the CB back then.

Fast Forward 30 years. I'm thinking of installing a CB in the Pace Arrow. I currently have a stand alone cd\SSB radio but I'm stuck as to what antenna I should be using. I have played with a 3' fiberglass whip on the top right driver side but I think the reception %#$#% due to the fact I have no ground plane. The Pace is fiberglass and I have a rubber roof.

Any suggestions on what type of antenna(s) I should be using? I don't have any rear view mirrors to hang off of. will het an L bracket. If I'm going to add a CB I want to do it right the first time.

I'm thinking of perhaps getting a cd that has the remote radio (channel and other dials in the hand set. Any suggestions on the radio side? I'm thinking single side band and such.

Thanks

  • Loved the CB in my younger day too. I have one in coach now, but only turn it on when there is a traffic jam. The language from truckers is more than I want to hear and I do not hear anyone on the re'ers channel which I think is ch 13. Not sure I would put another one in next coach. The little family radios are better to use while traveling with others.
