Are CB radios worth it anymore for emergencies? If so what type has the best range?

Useful for traffic tie-ups/construction info from the truckers, but you have to put up with a lot of garbage. Ours has weather channels that will alert even with the volume down so I leave it on with no volume. When traffic gets heavy I crank up the squelch so I only hear those close to me.
