Cd's into zip drive so I can play them in new car

I am not sure how a car stereo would read a zip drive. The point of a zip drive - when they still made them - was to compress files on to a ZIP disc so you can store more data than diskettes. I am not sure a car stereo would be able to unzip them and read the media. You typically need WINZIP or some other extraction program. Zip drives phased out with the invent of flash drives as you could store way more data on a smaller device.

Windows makes it easy to rip CD's into MP3's. Then you can load them to an MP3 player or flash drive. This will work provided your stereo has an MP3 or USB input respectively. You can probably still buy an MP3 player at CVS for $10.

Not sure what level of technology you own but almost any smart phone can store music files as well as the ability to build playlists from Pandora, Spotify etc.

I replaced the Stereo in my Truck with one that's bluetooth, phone capable etc for a little over $100. Took 20 minutes with the proper harness. Smart phone links via bluetooth and I can do lots more than play music.

I suspect the OP is inquiring about a flash drive, rather than a Zip drive.

What about converting to mp3, storing on phone, and streaming via either bluetooth or a cord (mini stereo plugs on both ends)? Most car radios of the last 15 years will take one or the other of those.

Ah, what memories. When I was an IT Purchasing Manager in the 90's I bought literally hundreds of them, and thousand of the disks.

But in this case I was assuming he meant a USB drive. I've heard people in different parts of the country refer to them as zip drives, so it's probably a regional colloquial term.

I would think so too unless it's for laptops.

Just get a low priced newer radio. It would also have bluetooth where you can answer your phone hands free, play your song off your iPhone playlist, etc.

That's what I have previously and do a DIY. But I found out converting it would rip out the connections down to the panels and driver console.

If you search youtube for convert cd to MP3 you will find thousands of videos. It will probably be easier to follow a video than written instructions.
