What "is best" is different for everyone. This may help. IMAP mail is stored on the email server much like "webmail". If IMAP mail is deleted from a device it will be deleted from the server. POP3 mail is downloaded to the client (
the program running on your PC or tablet) and if you have more than one device, each device will download mail that is new to that device and store it on the device. With POP3 the mail remains on the server for a time determined by the client so it can be downloaded to other devices. Most POP3 clients give the option of deleting from the server when you delete from the device.
Note: When I say "device" above it could be a PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
