Cell phone wireless to Laptop

Am I correct that if you have a cell phone and get the web service, you can use it just like a hotspot?

Is there any difference between these two kinds of web service?

I currently have a Verizon hotspot AND a Sprint cell phone ... and am wondering if I'm duplicating web access if both have web service.

I had three phones (family service) on Sprint, but now need only one service. So, does it make sense to use cell for wifi access to the LT - and if so, what else do I need, if anything to access the wifi from the cell and use it on LT too.

please make it simple, as M44 is somewhat technicapped ...

    what Sprint phone
    new Android or old flip phone
    most older phones are cable or Bluetooth connection Not wifi hotspot

    and most important, what is the data feature/plan of the sprint phone

    If the phone you have has "internet sharing" in settings or something similar it can be used to connect over 4G or LTE.

    My phone can serve 8 devices.
    It's not real fast though.
