Changing cell company?

Current contract is almost up. Going to want a new phone. Other than regular phone service we use the phone as a tethered hotspot when camping. Now have Verizon a Senior plan without messageing. Don't think they still have that plan. Happy with coverage, use mostly up east coast.

Now questions -- Any no contrat plans that allow tethering?
Does AT&T allow tthering?
How about Sprint?
We like Android, new phone suggestion?
  • Do you mean tethering without additional charges? As I understand, Verizon has to allow use of tethering apps for certain tiered plans, as part of an agreement with the FCC for acquiring certain spectrum licenses. I believe they were fined at one point for not doing so. I don't have any idea if this applies to other carriers?
  • Sprint allows tethering for an extra $15/month per phone. I have a Sprint phone that I tether without their fee by using PDAnet. If I remember correctly, I paid $30 for PDAnet, years ago.
  • We went with Verizon Home Phone Connect, two smart phones and a MI-FI. Our smart phones also have tethering capabilities, but no longer use it because of the MI-FI. Not cheap, but we have hosted in places where the only service was Verizon.
