Chrombox???

Hello everyone,

I'm seriously considering a HP or ASUS Chromebox (HP is on sale today on BestBuy.com for about $150.00!!) to set up as a permanent desktop to run dual monitors. Everything I do on the computer is done through the Google chrome anyway.

Does anyone have any experience with the Chrome OS?

Thanks!

Jeremiah

Doesn't the Chromebook require a network connection to do anything? A laptop, on the other hand, can be used to do trip routing, balance checkbook, print papers, look at photographs, read stored books, play DVDs, and do your wordprocessing even without a network connection. We spend time in areas where even Verizon wireless doesn't reach. For our camping/life style, a notebook works better.

Actually, this is a complete fallacy. The Chrome OS does shine when connected to the net... just like Windows OS and OS X

Chrome does have many many many offline apps that will let you do all of those things you describe. But its not for every one and I will be the first to admit that. If you do heavy things like video editing and photoshop etc... Chrome may not be the best choice.

However, For me.. Chrome gives me the opportunity to do have a relatively powerful desktop that will run my two HP monitors and do 99% of what I need to do. Its very nice to not need 8gb of ram just to keep the OS's head above water. 4gb of ram makes a Chrome OS powered computer FLY.

    thanks for the comments!

I missed the Newegg deal :(

  • I have both the regular Asus Chromebox and the 4K Core i3 version that is hooked up to my 50" Samsung 4K UHD TV . I prefer to use my Mac or Chromebox than Windows when online to avoid getting this .

  • The ASUS has HDMI and DisplayPort outputs so it does support dual monitors. The ASUS is selling for $114 from NewEgg. Free shipping and no sales tax.

  • I have a HP Chromebook 14 . Have had for seven months. Early it only had 50 app's. Know it has about 300 or more. Dw dose not like the games. Fast loading and no start up time. You need to print to the cloud ( i.e. Print server) or e-print printer.
  • You crack me up Roy!! lol

I was getting a little lost in some of your connectors etc... LOL

Here is a Link to what we are talking about.

    Thanks!

I run DUAL 24-inch DELL monitors here with my DELL PRECISION M90 XP-PRO setup. I get excellent connections using the PR01X Port Replicator which supports multiple monitors and a whole list of other external connections...

Sure makes for great use of the M90 laptop being used here at the house and then just grab the same M90laptop and plop into same setup setup in the trailer.

Can carry everything with your. I also carry several USB Hard Drives for all my work and hobby uses...

Wouldn't have it any other way. I am currently looking into getting my M90 to run on WIN7 PRO since support for XP dropped out a few months back...

I would most definitely be looking for a LAPTOP that uses the port replicator docking. DELL has many models that does this... If my M90 is too old to do me any good running WIN7 I will be looking for the DELL PRECISION M6700 or newer from ebay OFF-LEASE places.

My OFF-ROAD POPUP Camper looks pretty neat with DUAL 22-inch DELL monitors and all the accessories sitting behind my wrap around seating next to my unused tent bed end... Its all PLUG and PLAY moving from house to trailer

NOTE: Obviously I don't have a clue what a CHROMEBOX is hehe...
