Chrome browser looking pretty strange

A curious thing is taking place in my Chrome browser, which is rendering it unusable. The address bar, as well as any dropdown menu, are loaded with little square`characters in place of letters and words. These are`hollow squares, BTW. I've tried re-installing Chrome, but to no effect. I don't recall how the problem started or what I did, if anything.I like the browser and would like to use it but all these strange characters make it impossible. Any ideas what the bug could be?
BTW, I'm running Win XP.

Is there another way to open windows explorer without having to hit 2 keys? I have use of only one hand at this time and can't span the keyboard enough to hit both the windows and E keys at the same time. Thanks again.

If using Win 7 or 8.1 in Win 7 mode, right click on start button and then click on Explore or Open File Explorer.

Well, it is a little more complicated to do it with one hand in XP:

To open Windows Explorer, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
  • I have always been a big user of Windows Explorer, so I always put an icon for it on the Taskbar so I can get to it with one click. Just find the explorer.exe file (I think it is in the Windows folder for XP), create a shortcut to it on your desktop and drag it to the Taskbar. On my systems, I always make it the first icon to the right of the Start Button.

Well, on my Windows 7 and 8 systems it is the 2nd icon to right of Start button. The first icon to the right is my Show Desktop icon. :)
  • Well, I needed to reinstall the XP operating system and when I downloaded Chrome. it's now working. :)

Sounds like a font file issue.. For some reason your browser is choosing to display a font that does not exist or that only has a few characters.

How to fix it: Sorry no clue I only recently started using Chrome (But that symptom is common in many programs) and have no idea how to fix that.. IF you can find a font setting,m Try Ariel or Times-Roman.
