Chrome browser looking pretty strange

A curious thing is taking place in my Chrome browser, which is rendering it unusable. The address bar, as well as any dropdown menu, are loaded with little square`characters in place of letters and words. These are`hollow squares, BTW. I've tried re-installing Chrome, but to no effect. I don't recall how the problem started or what I did, if anything.I like the browser and would like to use it but all these strange characters make it impossible. Any ideas what the bug could be?
BTW, I'm running Win XP.
  • Some weird stuff happened today with DH's chrome. I went in and disabled one of the extensions, he had little squares or icons below his google search box. At this moment I am not sure what extension it was. He didn't have it yesterday though and he didn't know why it popped up. I guess I got lucky.
  • There is no OS connected to the NET that is immune from malware or hacking.
  • I use chrome on my chromebook with no problems. :) I don't even use microshaft anymore although I still have a desktop. Chrome is so fast easy and does everything I need to do with no worry about virus.
  • Chrome's program files may be corrupted. But go to Tools > More Tools > Encoding and check to make sure (UTF-8) is selected?

Seems like every time we get an auto update different things start showing up these days. The latest ADOBE FLASH 18.0.0.203 doesn't like my FIREFOX version 39.0 does strange things when it opens up videos and crashes.

Seems to work OK on Internet Explorer and Chrome. I hate the Internet Explorer as it uses all kinds of memory. Been running FIREFOX for several years now.

So now I have to use CHROME on my FACEBOOK program and FIREFOX on all the others. I like the way FIREFOX does all of the TABS when you first start up... CHROME sort of has the same thing but it works different - something new to learn

WIN 10 is dropping the Internet Explorer for a new browser called EDGE. So here we all go again trying to make everything work together all over again...

Hope you find your new bugs...
