Closing browser vs closing tab

Does switching to a new 'tab' and closing the previous tab offer the same security as 'closing your browser'?
  • I'm not sure what 'kind' of security OP is referring to.
  • Hopefully you're not doing your banking on a public computer. :)
  • When online banking I always go to "In Private" browsing. Don't know how much safer it is but the computer doesn't remember passwords etc.
  • Ok then. Thanks I was doing that when banking. Won't be doing that anymore!:B

    Thanks for your help.
  • The short answer is no. If you're in a public place and walk away from the computer it does prevent someone from just hitting the back button. However, if you are, say, logged into your Amazon account and close the tab; opening another tab and going to Amazon will start with you already logged in. Most banks you will have to re-login, but you can't count on it.
