The reason is condensation.
When you bring a cold item to where it is warm the ambient air (which contains moisture) condenses on the cold surface and collects moisture. The moisture shorts out the electronics if they are energized when damp like that.
As long as the television and the room temp are the same then the chances of shorting out something are minimal.
LED and LCD are little affected by cold. Back in the day people were warned about PLASMA sets as there was a liquid in the screen that was affected by freezing temperatures.
