Our GPSs give us live traffic updates and we watch the weather via our smartphones and/or laptops. We do, however, keep handheld FRS/GMRS radios in the vehicles. This is because on travel days I drive the tow vehicle and the wife follows in the "chase car." Works well for us and I don't need the distraction of other people chattering on a CB while I'm driving.

GPS traffic data is either going to be FM or require cell/Internet. We've had times when neither work, but as a general rule, those are the same areas that don't have traffic issues :)
Still, I like redundancy and was looking for alternate options. Same goes for weather. Several years ago we were caught in a storm that knocked out electricity for several days. I don't recall if it affected cell phone towers or AM/FM radio towers, but I'm sure it did to some degree.
Glad those things work well for you, and we've been using the same systems for years.
We use FRS/GMRS radios as well, but have only ever used them for backing up/ spotting.
