We have a CB installed, mainly because it was there when we bought the coach. We turn it on sometimes to see what the truckers are saying about road conditions in poor weather, or if there are any other problems up ahead. I also have a scanner app on my phone that we can check when there's an unexpected traffic backup possibly due to an accident. Our GPS traffic info isn't very reliable on rural roads.
I haven't checked out any of the apps. Have they ever delivered any useful information for you, or are they ever of entertainment value?
If you're an information junkie there are TONS of apps you ought to be running in the background as well as an NWS receiver.
As far as CB, that is local communications only within 10 miles maybe. When the skip is in, local comms can easily be reduced to a mile or less.
Ham depends on who or what repeater is in the area and what equipment you're operating with.
