And that's why I was such a popular kid building HPA's....
BTW- I doubt you had splatter issues that close for more than a few blocks. Any more than that was probably skip that back in the 60-80's was so strong it could have easily stepped on you, even adjacent channel splatter from 1000 miles away. There were a few guys in Missouri (Ol' Tom and his bro) running well over 1kw dead key with compressor/amps into converted DX-60 Heathkits that could easily take out 2 channels in either direction. Those were the guys that kept my little 40w 12v PA's selling all the way in LA.
RK911- nice write up! Personally D-anything makes me grind my teeth, it sounds like early attempts at digital cellphones. It's fun to watch the APRS guys running around tho. I had a node at the house for years to help the locals through all the terrain around here
