As a kid, I can remember the guy's a street over from where we lived, "the Pea-picker" and "the Outsider" were running some heavy power into one of those "Moonraker" Quad bean antenna's...they talked to people all over the US and I'm sure a few countries too. I think my 11-12 year old kid base consisted of a crystal tuned Eico 6 channel Radio into a 102" whip outside my bedroom window. :-) Those were the days....
