I noticed that you are a professional photographer, will you use the computer to download/store/edit your digital photos? If so, you probably don't want a tablet since they are generally fairly limited in storage ability and not particularly adept at photo editing.
Regarding your question about wifi, IMO the built-in wifi of most laptops is sufficient but if you are looking to reach for fairly distant wifi hotspots then an external wifi adapter as Fizz suggested will do it better.
