- Mortimer_BrewstExplorer IILast year I picked up Norton Security Deluxe (5 devices) for $19.99 on Amazon. They usually have a deal around Thanksgiving and then again within the 2 week time period after Xmas. I believe last year it was just after New Years Day. Be sure to check daily.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIWhat is the best free download.. THe FIreplace app from the windows app stoer.
OH Best SECURITY app. . I use a collection and I do not give out the list I actually use but you can look for the "10 best"
I DO NOT believe in an intergrated firewall/anti-virus and I will tell you the better the firewallm and the better the Anti-Mal0ware the nore annoying they are
Avastm AVG, Malware Bytes, Norton are all on the top 10 Zone Alarm is #1 Firewall . I will never install McAffee. Not only is HE a crimninal but his company is as well. - DKeanExplorerThe short version of what happened to my computer. I have verizon fios fiber optics. I was looking at some of the news stories on my home page. I saw one I wanted to read. When I clicked on it my screen started flashing and an alarm was blasting from my speakers. I backed out of that screen to desk top. I looked for the number for verizon tec support and called. I told them what happened when I was on their site. They sent me to their tec guys to do a remote access. They looked around my computer and found it was infected. They couldn't remove it and told me they had an outside company to do what they couldn't. So when verizon tec support transferred me it didn't go to their contractor. It went to the dark side. Sounds like verizon was infected too. This outside contractor checked my computer and said they could fix it for $500.00. I should have hung up but stupid me said fix it.
A couple days later I called my credit card company and told them I got scammed. They said when it shows up on our statement to call them and they would deny payment. (American Express ) Don't leave home without it. The name of the bad guys was pctechclinic. We googled them and they have a lot of complaints against them. - SidecarFlipExplorer IIILike I said... If it don't pass the smell test, chances are it stinks...
I lease a .com site and the junk I get is beyond imagination. I delete it all.
My IT has very good protection and I run Norton 360 as well. I haven't been bitten yet and don't plan on getting bit either.
Almost every day I get get the Fed-Ex stuff or messages from the middle east or get rich quick stuff. They all get deleted.
Very selective in what I open and I don't post pictures as a rule either, especially not with 3rd party hosting sites (like this platform uses). If I cannot direct upload, I don't and even then I check the encryption. I don't need or want any intrusions. - jim1521ExplorerThe single best defense is to ensure you're computer is patched and up to date with the current updates. I can't emphasize that enough.
Get anti-virus software if it will make you feel better, but if you patch your boxes that will go the longest way. As soon as a security patch comes out, get it loaded. - GordonThreeExplorerI have a government customer that spends more than 30 grand a year on multiple layers of protection, client, server and network.
Didn't save them when a user opened a FedEx scam email sent to a personal account. Took less than three hours for ransomware to scramble 20TB worth of data.
Luckily the attack didn't go after desktops or remote offices. Disaster recovery had production restored the next afternoon. - theoldwizard1Explorer II

Concur ! (I ran Free AVG for many years, but have switched to Defender. No issues. - 3oaksExplorerYes, what GordonThree stated helps prevent being infected with computer viruses, but doesn't guarantee you won't be hit.
It just cuts down the odds. - GordonThreeExplorer
