Hey All,
My mother and I are about to take a road trip out west through MT, ID, UT and WY ~ little to no cell reception.
What is the most cost effective way we can communicate between cars if we want to not have to travel one right behind the other? I really need to keep costs down.
We bought two 16 mi walkie talkies and they seemed to peter out within 2 miles. I can't imagine if we go round a bend in the road that we could get much further away.
Help!
if you're gonna be on the interstates then your cells should work. otherwise a pair of FRS (family radio service) radios should do the trick. you may already have a pair but if they were advertised as being good for 16-mi is a stretch...maybe across open water or across flat terrain or from a mountain top...otherwise 2-mi is about right. but unless you're going to be constantly chit chatting 2-mi on curvy mtn roads is about the best you're gonna do both in terms of performance and price.
