Cost Effective Communication Between 2 Vehicles Out West

We have always lived out west and experience dropped calls and spotty coverage (even with Verizon) as we travel the highways and byways throughout the four corner states. We use our cell phones when there is coverage and make calls short as they can drop out quickly, and FRS radios when we are within a few miles of each other. CB radios are a viable option if you desire better range.
