The millage claims are under "Ideal conditions".. Odds of finding ideal conditions approach zero.
Ideal can be, in a ship's crow's nest over open water or mountain top to mountain top (Well good size hill in any case) with no trees in between.
True story: I took a 1 watt radio with a short antenna up 21 floors and got great range.... 40 watts at 30 feet a short distance away could not make the trip.
Your radios will be what, about 4 feet up and INSIDE a car.. long way from Ideal.
