Not every place has cell phone coverage, or wifi, or an electrical outlet plug. It is called camping, and I am thankful that such places still exist.
As for the OP, I agree that CB radios, or walkie talkies are probably your best solution.
If you look at many of those places in the west where there is no coverage you will also find that there also is no people in those areas. Okay there may be some people, but there are very few people. Many of those areas aren't even accessible to most humans as it would take some work to get into them.
