My DT has developed a problem where the sound from a video or news clip or music cd doesn't come on when the input starts. An example is, if I start a CD, the first 10 or 20 seconds of the first song...

Okay, I forgot to give much background. I have a Gateway DX4840-37, Win 7, Realtek sound and I have cold booted several times and I just checked Processes in the Task Manager and it shows "0" usage. I tried downloading the "Free" drivers from several sites including Gateway. Gateway refers me to Asus and they say driver not available. Almost all the others including Realtek take me first to Driver Detective(who says I have 18 outdated drivers) and then to anyone of several sites which for $30 will check and see if they have a upgraded driver. So much for support and free downloads.
I am going to look at the Rescue discs and see if I can find a file with the drivers.
Other than that or paying $30, what can I do?
