deleting names from contact list

I am using windows 7 and windows live mail. I have several names that I wish to clear from my list of contacts but I can't. When I choose EDIT there is no selection to delete the highlighted name. Is there something I am missing here? Thanks in advance.
  • In your contacts, highlight the contact you wish to delete and click on the large red "X" on the toolbar (it says "Delete).
  • Thanks for the get back, that is what I expect to see, but no delete X appears anywhere.
  • I do not know if it is the same, but in my outlook.com account, I go to the 9 dots in the upper left, choose people, put a check mark in the person I want to delete, go back up to the bar at the top and choose "Delete" to the right of "People".

If you do not have that, I'd use help and contact MS.
  • I am not familiar with Windows Live Mail, but have you tried right-clicking on the contact you want to delete. Perhaps a contextual menu will pop up containing the "delete" command.
  • I was able to delete some contacts, unfortunately the info from previous posts didn't help me. Thanks again for the info given to me.
  • I wish there was a red "X" to delete some of the genius's who keep improving Windows.
  • (1) Go to contact list.
    (2) Highlight the contact you wish to delete.
    (3) Click Edit Contact on top right of page.
    (4) Highlight contact on left upper side of page.
    (5) Highlight any information on page and click delete button on keyboard.
    (6) After all information on page has been deleted, click Red X upper right of page.
(7)A box will pop up saying you have made changes to this contacts information, would you like to save these changes?
    (8) click the Yes box, contact should then be deleted from your contacts.
