DHS Mobile Surround Sound-stupid TV's today

ok Folks,

Who can tell me a simple fix for this; Bought this awesome motorhome and it still has the old 20" tube TV's w/ analog AUDIO out plugs in the rear. Sound System works GREAT! ....

.... so, wanting to upgrade my picture quality to todays awesome LCD technology and open up a can of worms as now my TheaterSystem will not interact w/ the new TV. Been told these are my options;

- buy a new TV w/ the additional AUDIO OUT (RCA) plus. OK, who MAKES THOSE and HOW MUCH MORE?
- wire RCA plus onto each speaker and then run the risk of the TV being HOT and possibly ground out.
- BUY a TV that a shop can reset the Factory Setting ---- meaning adjust the "digital out" plug to analog.
- last buy a new system ... which I find unacceptable

FYI - digital to analog adapter will no work ... tried this and had to return the $50.00 item

Well, thanks for reading my rant -- I'm sure someone has run into this as the DHS Mobile System seems to be the unit of choice several yrs ago...

HELP

  • OK Guys; here's how I solved the issue. Ran to Best Buy and took advantage of the July 4 sale!

Bought a VIZIO 32", 1080, 120HZ. Unit has AUDIO OUT RCA (Analog) jacks as well. Up and running/DH Mobile Surround Sound works great.

Know that VIZIO, Samsung and LG were the ONLY three sets that gave the AUDIO OUT RCA Jacks

    $427.99 --- could have done it for $300.00 if I went w/ 720 and not 1080

    Thanks for the support guys

  • I assume you want to use your old analog "stereo" (2-channel) speakers with a new LCD, or LED, television.

Most decent brands of televisions will have the needed older audio outlets to send the signal to your old amplifier to power your speakers. Please remember that your old system is a power-hog and will not work well if using batteries. You will need shore-power. The old system takes up more space with larger speakers.

The newer 5.1, or 7.1 surround sound amplifier/speaker systems work better at lower power levels and smaller speakers.
  • Most sets will have some sort of audio out connectors. Ideally you need one that has RCA jacks. My LG TV has digital audio out and also a headphone jack. To use the digital would require an audio converter. To use the headphone jack requires a cable that has a headphone plug on one end and RCA plugs on the other. A good source for cables, adapters, and converters is Monoprice

This is what I did. Works great with my sound system.
Bought mine at Best Buy....their brand.
You have to look at them carefully to check on the audio outputs.

Some Vizio. Yes look at specs.

  • Have you done a search on the forum? There are a lot of TV make over from simple surface mounts to cabinet alterations.
