Even if you are pretty good with a compass and think you are looking in the right portion of the sky, it is real easy with a cheap meter to try and lock on to a satellite that is a few degrees from the 101.
Never had a problem with my tripod mounted SL3. If your setup is plumb and you have the magnetic azimuth set then the rest is a piece of cake. Just saying what works for me. I'm cheap! Don't like spending any more than I have to.
