Digital TV Tuners

Looking to replace the flat panel TV in the bedroom. Installed the Winegard Wingman and get great OTA digital channels on the Insignia in the living room, very poor reception on the old bedroom TV. We don't have satellite so rely on OTA channels wherever we are.

So I'm shopping for a new TV and want one that will bring in as many OTA channels as possible, but I'm not sure what the alphabet soup of tuner specs means.

Looking at a 19" Insignia and it says it has a digital tuner as follows "ATSC, 8-VSB, Clear-QAM".

Is this good? What should I be looking for?

  • It's a Pyle brand that came with the RV and it's a 2007 model, so it's dated. plus the picture is really crappy, DW wants HD in the bedroom too....so not just replacing it for the tuner.

What model TV is the "old bedroom TV"? There may be nothing wrong with it. The problem could be in the wiring. Try the new TV in the same location in the bedroom before purchasing another one. If it also gets poor reception you will know there is a problem with the cabling and not the TV itself.
