Direct TV Geni works

FYI
A couple months ago I had asked a question whether the DTV Geni would work with a Track vision SF dome on the Motorhome. Most of the knowledgable answers said it should work but were not sure as they had not tried it themselves.
Well I have hooked it up and the Geni is working fine. No HD but good pix. The dome will find the Sat like before, usually after first try but sometimes it takes a couple tries.
I used the power inserter and splitter and the diagram that Satellite Bill furnished and hooked it up and it works fine. Thanks Bill.
Just thought I would furnish a follow up in case anyone is thinking about putting a Geni in RV

I don't think you have to have a phone line on a DirecTV receiver unless you order lots of movies directly from the TV. If you do you will eventually find that the receiver will reach a $$ limit beyond which it won't accept any more orders unless you connect it to a phone or the internet so it can download your charges. When you do connect it finally, it will dump all your accumulated charges.

The workaround is to just order your movies from your computer or smart phone.

Yes have been in different locations and locked on to the sat with no problems. Seems to be
about like the other receivers that I have used without the phone line connection.

    Thanks for the help

No. Add internet -- then you're cooking with gas.

Thanks for the update Jim. It's good to know. Have you tried moving (pointing a different direction) to ensure it will lock again? It you do or if you have please let us know.
  • Replace that Track Vision with a SWM Trav'ler and enjoy all those HD programs.
