Direct TV local channels

Standard definition local channels were just cut off. The screen shows that they have equipment available at no cost. The other SD channels work. I guess they will be next to go. Since we have A Winegard Carryout dome and it is only compatible with DT SD or those other guys we will switch to the other guys. Someone made a poor business decision.
  • AT&T’s Direct TV made a bad decision? No!! Couldn’t be!!
  • I would say that anyone who was using a dome and DTV, knowing that the end of SD programing was on the immediate horizon, is the someone who made a poor business decision.
It has been well known for several years that DTV planned the sunset of SD programming. Even worse, even if you upgrade to HD receiver(s) you will still only be able to receive programming from the 101 satellite likely leaving a huge programming gap including ZERO Network programming.
  • Many people have domes purchased prior to any discussion concerning the end of SD programming. There will be no upgrade to a HD receiver for us. Our dome can function quite well with Dish programming. Direct TV has seen it's day. Because of their poor business model they are bleeding customers. In the quarter ending 6/30 they lost 934,000 customers. And they will lose at least one more this quarter.
  • I have switched back and forth several times between the two satellite tv providers to take advantage of promotions and they pretty much carry the same channels with few exceptions, currently with Dish and they are at least more responsive to RVers than Directv ever was. Yeah, they are both losing customers in bunches for the obvious reasons, we love to stream video content like everyone else, but on the road having all of our stations readily available will keep me from cancelling our satellite service anytime soon.

We have been using satellite TV while RVing for a couple of decades, well before automatic systems were available, we can easily set up our own residential satellite antenna for either sat tv provider using just a compass and our satellite receiver. It is an option if you want to keep Directv, plus you can feed multiple TVs and have access to all satellites so there is no delay when switching channels. Only reason we have automated satellite tv domes is they came with the used rig we purchased, we use them when overnighting but manually set up our satellite antenna when staying for more than a day.
