Lets not get ourselves all worked up about this. I think everyone can agree that switching often keeps your equip updated and can, at times, get you better prices and packages. I also realize that many at Direct and Dish have NO clue as to what their talking about and certainly what your talking about when you call.
The "Grandfathering" I speak of was their terminology in regards to my previous package and while I never asked to change programming packages, it seems that's exactly what happened. My understanding was that way back when I first signed up for Direct, I had at least two things in my favor regarding DNS service and East/West coast feeds on the networks.....those two conditions were:
1) I was unable to place an OTA antenna outside my house which resulted in me Not getting local channels.
2) I had not had cable TV within 90 days(don't quote me on the actual days) prior to signing up with Direct which again resulted in no local stations.
Of course all this goes back to the Analog days long before digital signals were floating around and its my recollection that Direct did not have the ability to provide locals at that time. This was when I was allowed to have both the east/west network feeds at a cost...nothing was/is free.
Im sure many here are much more up of all the goings on with the FCC and regulations regarding DNS but from my reading of articles, one of the reasons Dish outsources their DNS service to a third party was because Dish was fined heavily for Not doing their due diligence when allowing customers to subscribe to DNS services. Obviously one of the big issues was advertising dollars.....the local business's didn't want us on the west coast watching east coast stations and basically getting No exposure to the local public.
Anyways.....everything that Ive read and been told by Direct indicates that "waivers" for HOME DNS service must be done electronically by them. I've asked for them to be submitted but each and every time Im told they cant pull down the screen that even allows this. Ive also read where some have been able to submit them on their own but at this point.....!!!!!!
Once again, Home and RV DNS are two totally different animals.......RV DNS requires NO waivers but only current registration of the RV. I'm not looking for an argument either, Im only relating what my experience has been.
