DirecTV 101 satellite

I received an email from
DirecTV informing me that I will be losing my local channels on my SD receivers. Which is no problem for me, since my King Quest locks in on the 101.

What I'm wondering about is, what will be on the 101? will it stay the same or will my SD access be limited or eliminated?
  • When DTV ends SD broadcasts your dome WILL still work and it WILL receive HD programming but you must have an HD receiver or you will get nothing. That's the good news. The bad news is that no one know which channels will be broadcast on the 101. Hopefully, at some point, DTV will announce the channel line up to be broadcast on 101 but at this point we just have to wait and see.

At the moment Direct/AT&T puts HD on one frequency band and SD on another. The two are not compatible with there same antenna. If you have a SWM Dish you actually have THREE different antennas (2 for HD only)..

What will happen in the future I DO NOT KNOW

Some of the KING dishes can ... however.. hit all 3 DISH network sats.. others can not. Yours... I have no clue.
  • The specs I find online say Sd only for that dish. Whether that will work for future HD on the 101 is doubtful, but, only DTV and perhaps Bill.Satellite know.

It's not just the dish, it's the LNB and your receiver too.
  • That's what I need to know. What HD will I have available on a King Quest satellite dish? The King Quest only receives the 101 satellite. Will SD still be there or will it be HD only. What The Email from DiercTV said was I would lose SD programming for local channels. SD local channels are on the 119 satellite. I don't get those anyway. It didn't mention any thing else about the future of SD programming.
  • Direct is eliminating SD not sat 101. If you have a SD only receiver your service will end soon. Time to either upgrade to a newer receiver or switch to Dish.
  • If I were you I'd be prepared to lose all SD programming in the next year or so. But, only DTV knows.
