Ok guys here is the latest. I got a call directly from the VP of Directv that this problem falls to. I can't remember his exact title because I was driving at the time, sorry. Very nice and down to earth kind of guy. He stated that he appreciated the contact that I made with his office and that they immediately started working the problem. They have identified the problem in the code ( which was ported from the Geni) to give the DVR's more features. Their validation lab did not catch the problem because frankly they never saw the need to check for our particular situation. They now have that as part of their validation lab. He said the new software will require about two weeks of validation then they will start the push out it sometime in July or August. The problem is they are right in the middle of a software push out now so it has to wait till this one is done.
So the good news is that it will be fixed, pushed out this summer and RVers are part of the validation process. The bad news is that the solution of leaving the DVR on after booting with a satellite signal will only work for 12 hours. The new software will reboot if it does not have a signal for 12 hrs.
We are just going to have to live will it for a few months.
