Directv Genie Question

We have a Genie with a wired mini-Genie client. I prefer wired solutions because they have fewer outage issues and not having to have a Video Bridge is just one less thing to find a place for. The system works quite well.

We changed to HD Tv's last year and changed our old Tivo's for the Genie. I still prefer Tivo, but the Genie works fine in the MH with no internet. If I had it to do over again, I would definitely upgrade to HD tivo and not Genie, but it's fine...I'm just spoiled from Tivo.

I find ours more prone to outage and digital squares a lot more often than my old set up. One installer said it wasn't unusual and it it the same for him

The Genie and wireless mini genie work great in my 5th wheel. My wireless bridge sits right next to my receiver with no problems. The wireless mini genie will work on a non-HD receiver with the little adaptor that plugs into the video-audio connectors on the older TV.

The Genie and client will work just fine in a MH, but you need to be aware that neither has a coax (75 ohm) output. That might be a factor depending on how your coach was wired.

We have had our Genie and wireless slaves for about a year now. It took me a bit to get everything setup correctly, but it works just fine. One thing you have to be aware of, there is also whatmis called a video bridge. This piece requires connection to one port from the SWM and 120VAC power. It also needs to be around 6 feet away from the Genie according to Directv. At home mine is less than three feet away and works fine. For my fiver I was lucky I had some spare coax lines left over from a 4 wire setup I previously had, so I just jumpered two coax together and put the video bridge in the bedroom. Plug in the slave and watch TV. My system is sort of unique, I am able to use either my roof top Travler or a tri pod mounted ground antenna simply by switching one coax cable inside.

We have had a SWM HD satellite system in our coach since 2011 and it has worked well. Last quarter of 2014 we upgraded out LR DVR to a Genie and really like the fact that you can watch one thing and record four others. Five tuners and a lot more disc space. It's also nice to watch recorded stuff on the BR TV, and to schedule recordings on it as well.

You will enjoy it. My concern would be the choice of satellite dish installers. Let them know up front what you want done and if at all possible get your new receivers and have the dish installer set up the whole system. The dish installer is going to go the easiest route for wiring. If you do the receivers later and have someone else install them you may have to pay for additional wiring modifications. The receiver guy could point to the dish guy and say he didn't do it right. The dish guy could point to the receiver guy for the same reason. So, again, have the same company install the dish and receivers and confirm that everything works to your satisfaction.
