I'm afraid so. As for RVers, we who travel, portable satellite is still the best bet.

If it wasn't for hubby's sports channels, I think we could off Direct TV and never look back. How do sports fans handle these rising costs?

Now that AT&T is buying Direct, expect the price to rise and the customer service to plummet.

That discount probably tied you into a 2yr contract. You won't be able to cancel without a large penalty.

How could the CS be worse? DirecTV is the most deceptive, outright liars I have ever dealt with. As bad as ATT is they are no where near as low as DTV.

I'm another unhappy customer. I recently dumped DirecTV ...and all satellite tv for that matter...and now will only use local air or park cable tv. Now I have to get rid of an almost new Winegard 'Carryout' dish and a DirecTV receiver, which I own. I was a full-time customer since 1998, but enough is enough.

I called them and told I was going to cancel my service. When they asked why I was unhappy (I have been with them 15 years) I told them the price was getting to high. He gladly dropped my rate by $20 a month to keep us. Call them and ask them to give you a lower rate they likely will.

I was on the phone over 1 hour and finally talked to a retention dept supv. She would do nothing for the 2 discounts that had been removed and even told me the only $15 discount remaining on the account expires next month and won't be renewed.
She told me as all the old discounts are expiring they are not replacing them. In other words raising your bill without technically raising the package price. They try to tell the people that the price is not going up that just some of the extra discounts you got won't be there.
I asked her if there are customers stupid enough to buy that line of BS.
I am going to cancel next month before the last discount expires.

From what I'm read on the Satellite TV forums, Directv is starting to play hardball with discounts. They may have put a 'Red Flag' on your account saying no more discounts.
