I tried to read this entire thread but it escalated way too quickly into a very technical subject that most people could care less about. All I wanted was quick and easy setup that anyone can do in a few minutes. We have switched back and forth a few times over the years from Dtv to dish then to both at once then back to Dtv and now we have settled in quite nicely with Dish. Yesterday I decided it was time to set up and activate the Tailgater that I bought a couple weeks ago.
I started out by taking everything out of the box
put the batteries in the remote
looked everything over and decided we dont need no steenking instruction
Hooked everything up and did a quick guess as to where south was for the antenna to point.
Turned everything on and it started going through the setup process of finding signal and all that stuff.
after about 10 minutes of all that it downloaded all the software updates needed. This took about 15 minutes.
Called the 800 number to activate and after convincing the non English speaking lady of what I was doing she had it set up in about 10 minutes and all of a sudden "Back to the Future II" started playing while I was still on the phone. Told her it was working and all was good.
For $450 and about a 1/2 hour of my time I now have all of my HD programming from home available in the camper on the road as well.
This morning I went out to the camper to see how long it took to set up again now that the initial activation is done.
I took the tailgater out and sat it in a different spot making sure to turn it a little from where it was yesterday.
Went in and turned everything on. In less than a minute it found everything and was watching TV. It doesnt get anymore simple than that. I even went and stood in front of it to block the signal and it just kept on playing.
All in all I am stoked for camping to start in a couple weeks.
