Disc Clean-up & Disc defrag

Running Windows 10. Computer seems to be running slow especially when getting on the Internet. Currently in Champaign IL and I had to "restart" the computer twice thinking I needed to "refresh" it's little brain. ((I use my phone as a hotspot-Verizon))
Under "settings" I found "disc-cleanup" but couldn't find "disc-defrag" as with older operating systems.

Any help is appreciated along this matter.
Thank you.
  • I never turn win 10 computer off, just sleep mode. Memory leak is very unusual. Also never ever defrag a SSD drive.

The bottleneck is likely your phone hotspot, not your Win 10 computer.

I agree, that's why I asked him to test what download speeds his is getting.
  • Unlikely that it the computer needs defragging. Especially if you're running an SSD or two.

Disk cleanup can help sometimes, but most likely you've have stuff running in the background. Especially since you said it mostly occurs when you're online. Add-ons, memory leaks, and other browser problems are usually what cause these kinds of problems. Try running Malwarebytes and CCleaner.
  • I've been using the free de-frag program from Auslogics.

Just watch out for bloatware or programs they want to add to your download.

I also use Glary utilities on a regular basis.
  • Right Click on the drive you want to defrag. Click on Properties. In the box that appears the first TAb will have disk cleanup. Click on the tools TAB and you should see optimize and defrag

When you are online and run speedtest.net and fast.com, what speeds are you getting? BTW, always run each of these at least 3 times back to back to get an average.
