DISH 211z setup

I just purchased a DISH 211z sat rec from camping world. I have a Class A MH with a KVH R5 on the roof and a Winegard Carryout. I'm curious if you have any words of wisdom on setting this all up. It appears there is only one SAT In jack on the back of the recvr and two outputs from either antenna. The KVH is set up for Direct TV, so I believe there will be issues there. Any advice you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your replys.
  • You only have one "in" jack on the receiver. Each receiver is designed to run one TV. If you want to run two TVs from your satellite dish, you have to have two receivers. You would then run two separate RG6 cables from the satellite dish to each receiver, then connect each receiver to it's respective TV.
  • I Only need it to run one tv. I assume I use the primary jack of the two on the sat dish?

I have a KVH A5...same thing? Are you saying they don't work. Its on a MH I just bought. If it sucks that bad I may have to get another and I don't want to spend money on it if it doesn't work.
  • Thanks for the heads up. I got that feeling when I called tech support. As soon as I said I was out of warranty, I was told to leave a message.

I've been full timing for five years with no need for Sat TV. I'm in a place for the next 6 weeks with almost no off-air stations. So, I'm hoping to get this working for that time... thus the DISH plan works good for that.

I've got the Carry-Out set up and working, but no luck getting the DISH folks to activate the box today! Thanks
  • i am not all that techie all i can do is report my experiences which were less than stellar. their technology is dated at best and you WILL need to be a techie to have any chance of successfully using their product. i'm sure others much more knowledgeable than i will chime in and explain why KVH comes with their own unique list of ongoing software maladies.
  • There used to be an issue with the 211Z frimware when connected to a dome type antenna. Where you able to see the software go through the Step 1 of 5 to the point where a screen pops up and tells you to call Dish to activate the service? If so, that's really good news for the rest of us.
As to your KVH dome, if it is setup for DirecTV you will have to find a KVH tech with the required computer hardware and software to change the antenna over and get your software updated. This generally costs around $200 if you can find someone who still does it. They are out there, just sometimes hard to find.
