I know there are many threads on the general subject, one going on right now, didn't want to steal that one. Just hoping to get answer to my specific situation.We just switched home base TV to Dish from Direct so Dish is my only option I think. We have a 25' TT with one TV. We travel to the keys for a month or so in the winter where there is no OTA TV available, otherwise what we can get OTA normally suits us fine. We are not avid tv watchers, especially when camping, but news is nice and oh those NFL games. We do not want to take our receivers from home as we have some favorite shows we record and don't want to miss those. Someone told me to get a tailgater and small receiver for the TT and I would be good. Is that true? what type of tailgater should I look at for easy setup and least cost?Can I get the Dish on the go from dish for 7.00 per month for just a couple of months? ( asked the Dish installer and looked online but still no solid answer )Do I need a tripod or just set the tailgater or whatever on the ground?Where is the best place, price wise, to buy what I need?Thanks in advance

I've also heard that you should be able to get a second receiver on your account for $7 but you can definitely can get a pay-as-you-go account for the RV.unless the shows you're recording at home are on a local channel that is unlikely to be included in the local spot beam in Florida there's no reason to believe that the same show(s) cannot be watched or recorded in Florida. your DISH programming package will be the same at home or anywhere on the road. if sports such as NFL some games may be blacked out, though. local channels (broadcast networks) are available through spot beams but ABC is ABC, etc.

This is the satellite receiver we purchased exclusively for use in our RV, we didn't want to take receivers from home like we did in the past. As for the satellite dish we set-up our own HD dish on a tripod, but for Dish network there are several affordable automated dome choices which can be viewed at Camping World online.

Don't rule out how the OTA NATL TV NETWORK works these days since they changed over to digital TV. We always are able to get several TV stations just using our OTA BAT WING crankup antenna... This is all free to the public...We always like to be able to get a live radar station when we get parked to watch the weather real close with our setup...We use to bring along a spare SAT TV dish with a two output head on it and run a RG cable to a SAT RCVR in the living room and a second RG Cable to the SAT RCVR in the bedroom and use the VIDEO OUTPUT ports to tie into the TV sets. Then we select CABLE-OTA-SAT TV from the remotes in both locations... OF course the OTA OPS requires you to push the small button on the ANTENNA PANEL to work the OTA BATWIG antenna. If you haven't tried your OTA HDTV BATWING antenna setup give it try - I think you will be amazed how it looks now compared back in the old analog TV days...Since the change-over we don't bring out our DirecTV account SAT TV items anymore...Roy Ken

Yes, that's correct. Simply call DISH and add the receiver to your account when you want service in the RV and call them again to remove the receiver from your account when you no longer need it.

We have a 211K Dish receiver and Tailgator in our Outback boondocker. I carry 100' of cable to get a clear sky if I'm camping in the trees. I turn on the receiver in June and off in September for $7 per month.

Only gripe I have is that every time you fire up the genny the Tailgator has to go through its setup process which takes 10+ minutes.

My 2 cents on the Tailgater dish. Our previous RV had a manual dish mounted on the roof and I hated it. It SEEMED like trees were always blocking it (since we all want to have our campgrounds nicely wooded!). When we got our new Winne, I got the Dish Tailgater package thinking how great it would be to be able to move the dish around to get a clear view. After about 6 months I permanently mounted it on the roof. I found the extra height on the roof pretty much cancelled out the advantage of being able to move the dish around on the ground. Half the time I was climbing up to put the dish on the roof anyway. Much happier with the results now.

You can simply buy a Dish 211 or Wally receiver and have it added to your existing account. Both Winegard and King Dome sell satellite antennas designed specifically to work with the 211 receiver and you can even add a hard-drive to the 211 so you can record programming while you are away or busy with other things. King Dome sells the Tailgater and Winegard sells the Pathway X2 (bigger but better...IMO) and the Playmaker (smaller dome).

I use a Dish Tailgaiter and receiver that I got from Camping World. The Tailgater Antenna sits directly on the Ground. I also purchased a 500 Gig hard drive. That way it gives you dvr functionality. My setup works great
