To the OP, both services are about the same in terms of cost, equipment and reliability. Direct is known for offering sports packaging, if that's your thing.
Unless things have changed recently, you can only get HD channel with a dome antenna if you go with Dish. As far as I know, the only way to get Direct HD channels is by using a Winegard Trav'ler (very expensive) or a residential type antenna that must adjusted by hand.
In my opinion, either service will work for you if you want satellite TV.
