Dish receiver question with portable winegard 1518

want to upgrade my receiver so I can use the dvr - was told needed the 612 receiver because of my portable winegard but have read many complaints about freezing and noise - anyone comments / opinons w...

I have not heard that you could only use a 612 and don't think that is true.

That said, I do currently have a 612 and it does freeze up regularly.
