Dish Satellite Again

Another advantage to leaving our Hopper at home is that it continues to record our shows while we are driving or in that rare campground where you can't get sat.

I record stuff on the 211 at home too.

Why would you do that when it takes less than a minute to disconnect the Hopper 3 and Joey and put it in the RV? Then you have a 16 tuner DVR with all the shows you previously recorded and no extra fee.

If you can disconnect your Hopper 3 and Joey, take them to the RV, and reconnect in less than one minute, then you are one amazing man.

We don't need 16 tuners when in the RV. We watch a little TV during the day during downtime, a little at night, and the 10 pm news/weather. I suppose those who spend most of their time inside might want it. But we are more likely to be outside hiking, biking, fishing, or sightseeing.

Also, just because you switch channels, it does not mean that you switch satellites. For example, I seem to remember that most HD signals come off one sat (120 ?) in the western set. Maybe some one can clarify - Bill ?

I've seen this issue discussed, but have never really understood the concern. It's a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. I do not even think about it.

I also have the Pathway X2 (full timing for 4 years). Works great all over the country. If you go this route, I suggest getting the tripod stand that is available for it to get it up off the ground (standing rain water over 2 inches deep can affect the internals).

Also, I use the dishformyrv app (Iphone only - $10) to find the 2 sets of satellites in the sky. These portables are automatic but you need to set them up so they can see the satellites.

No difference pointing Hopper over Wally tho I found that DISH's sat box meter locks on more slowly that DTV which made me look at the Pathway.

I had DTV for 15 years and used my home receivers and manual dishes.

I switched to DISH about a year ago and much prefer it over DTV.

The best part about DISH is the Pathway X2 gets HD and both the eastern and western arc. This is a huge benefit. The sats are in different areas of the sky so you have better odds of getting signal.

We do not watch tv in the bedroom so we dont care about that. A dvd player is good enough.

I did the Hopper and manual dish a few times but you have to take along the separate wifi box, too so it gets a little messy.

When I found out about the Pathway, I jumped on it. Its $300.
The good tripod kit costs almost $200.

I use the factory wiring to the 211Z for the front tv. We DO like to watch tv outside sometimes so I bought an IOGEAR wireless HDMI box which sends HDMI 200' and I use that for the outside tv.

$175 but no monthly fee for a second box and I could take it to bedroom if needed.

I cant stress enough how easy it is with the Pathway. The 211 receiver is rv portable friendly.

You set the Pathway on level ground, connect to the outside cable connection, go inside and plug the 211 in ( I leave mine unplugged when not in use) turn on your tv and there is a menu that asks;

scan eastern arc or western arc? you click it and go do something else.

I use Dishpointer AR on my iPhone to make sure I have a clear view of the sats thru the trees.

I have heard more than a few Tailgater users complain of cabling issues, rain fade, etc.

No problems with the Pathway. My standard cable is 75' and I have added 50' to that with no issues.

I had the same tripod setup as you describe for years. Very easy to aim with a compass, level and decent meter. Depending on your travel and viewing habits it might be worthwhile to carry both Eastern and Western arc LNB assemblies.

My currrent Winegard Trav'lr doesn't support the Hopper 3 or the Eastern Arc but I've had the older model for years with no problems.

My experience is that you shouldn't accept anything from Dish customer service based on a single conversation.
