Both DirecTV and Dish receivers will "go to sleep" after somewhere about 30 days of seeing no signal from the satellite. This is a security issue built into the receivers to try to cut down on theft of services issues and it cannot be avoided unless you get that receiver on line at least a couple of days per month.
DirecTV you can re-authorize online. Dish you cannot. Don't try to figure a way around it, just understand that it is what it is and the criminals have made it tough for us non-criminals. Do what you must (how tough is a phone call or chat session anyway!) when you leave your receiver disconnected for an extended period or don't leave your receiver disconnected for an extended period. The choice is yours.
